Suspected militants attacked Kadangband area of ​​Imphal district in Manipur in the wee hours of Wednesday. The militants from the hilly areas of Kangpokpi fired several rounds from sophisticated weapons and hurled bombs at the lower areas around 1 am.

 

No one was injured in the attack

The volunteers posted in the village also retaliated. But additional security forces were sent to the area to control the situation. However, the police have not reported anyone being injured in the firing.

 

Police said that after the attack, the villagers were forced to move to safer places. Since the violence broke out in the state in May 2023, the Kadangband area has been attacked several times by suspected militants.

 

A large quantity of weapons recovered

Security forces seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition during a search operation in Manipur's Bishnupur and Thoubal districts, police said in a statement on Wednesday.

 

Security forces on Tuesday seized one SLR with magazine, one .303 rifle, one 12 bore single barrel gun, two 9 mm pistols with magazines, one anti-riot gun, two INSAS LMG magazines, two INSAS rifle magazines, four hand grenades, one detonator, five anti-riot shells, ammunition and other items from Thongkhonglok village in Bishnupur district.
