The Supreme Court has again taken a step to ensure transparency. All the 33 current judges of the Supreme Court, including the Chief Justice, have decided to declare their assets and make the details public.

Not only this, 30 judges including Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna have given the details of their assets to the Chief Justice. The names of three judges have not come yet. It can be uploaded on the Supreme Court website because the option of making it public has been kept voluntary.

The decision was taken in the full court meeting

At present, only the names of those judges have been made public who have given details of their assets. The Supreme Court judges have taken this decision by passing a resolution in a full court meeting. After the controversy over the alleged recovery of huge amounts of cash from the house of High Court judge Yashwant Verma, this decision of the Supreme Court judges to publicly declare their assets is important to promote transparency. However, this is not the first time that Supreme Court judges have decided to declare their assets and upload that declaration voluntarily on the website.

Such a decision was also taken in 2009

In 2009 also, the Supreme Court had taken a similar important decision in a full court meeting and at that time also the judges had declared their assets and it was made public, although the declaration of assets was voluntary.

On Thursday, it was reported on the Supreme Court website that in the full court meeting, all the judges of the Supreme Court, including Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna, have passed a resolution to declare their assets. The resolution passed states that after assuming office, the judges will declare their assets to the Chief Justice. Whenever they acquire significant assets, it will also be declared. The Chief Justice will also declare the assets.
