Thunderstorms and heavy rain swept through Scituate, Massachusetts, on the US South Shore on Monday morning, February 23rd. The area was also hit by numerous lightning strikes, along with a severe snowstorm.
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, winter storms lift layers of warm air, which increases snowfall and separates a lot of electrical charge during lightning strikes.

Snowstorm triggers 'emergency' in US
Many areas in the United States are currently experiencing heavy snowfall. According to meteorologists, this is the heaviest storm in the last ten years. Due to the heavy snowfall, authorities have declared a state of emergency in several cities and schools have been closed.
