The neighbours of the 60-year-old woman named Cheng were upset with her habit and complained about her, but there was no improvement in her habit. According to a report by Shanghai TV, the neighbours could do nothing to stop the woman from bringing garbage home and dumping it in her flat and public corridors. The woman's 157 square metre house is worth about Rs 42 crore (36 million yuan).

According to a society official, the couple living on the 15th floor could not tolerate the dirty environment and sold the flat.

The official contacted Cheng's daughter in 2023 and asked her to persuade her mother to come clean. At first the daughter agreed, but later said she did not want to interfere in her mother's affairs.
