
News Topical, Digital Desk : Ukraine launched a drone attack on Russia on Saturday night. Russia on Sunday reduced the size of the celebrations to honor its navy, citing security concerns.
Russian authorities cancelled parades of warships in St Petersburg, the Kaliningrad region on the Baltic Sea and the Far Eastern port of Vladivostok that usually mark the annual Navy Day celebrations.
Asked about the reason for the cancellation of the parade in St Petersburg, despite President Vladimir Putin arriving in his hometown to visit naval headquarters, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said it was linked to security reasons.
Defense Ministry statement
The Defense Ministry said air defense systems shot down 99 Ukrainian drones in several areas overnight. Officials reported more drones shot down near St. Petersburg. A woman was injured by drone fragments in the Lomonosov region.
St Petersburg's Pulkovo airport suspended dozens of flights on Sunday due to a drone threat. According to Reuters, debris from a downed Ukrainian drone fell in the southern Volgograd region, disrupting power supply to a railway in one section, disrupting operations.
Governor Andrei Bocharov said there were no casualties. The Russian Defense Ministry said its air defense units destroyed nine Ukrainian drones over the region. Rosaviatsia, the Russian civil aviation authority, said it suspended flights at the airport in Rostov-on-Don, the administrative center of the Volgograd region, shortly after midnight.

Flights had not resumed as of Sunday morning. Trains were delayed in parts of the region due to the attack. Damage is being assessed. There has been no comment from Ukraine.
Kiev has frequently said its attacks are in response to Moscow’s continued assaults on Ukraine since Moscow’s invasion in 2022 and are aimed at destroying infrastructure vital to Russia’s war effort.
Claims of occupation of two villages of Ukraine
The Russian Defense Ministry said that the army has captured two more villages in eastern Ukraine. One of these is in the Dnipropetrovsk region, where Moscow says its troops have started advancing. The Ukrainian army did not accept that control of the villages has changed. However, it has definitely informed that the fighting has intensified here.
