News Topical, Digital Desk : China has unveiled the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link, a massive 28-km-long maritime corridor that includes a 6.8-km-long underwater tunnel.
A remarkable example of engineering prowess, this sea link reduces travel time between the two cities from approximately two hours to just 20 minutes , improving connectivity within the Greater Bay Area. Its hallmark is its prefabricated tunnel sections and advanced ventilation. A 28-kilometer sea corridor has been built, allowing a two-hour journey to be covered in 20 minutes.
Why is its design special?
Designed to withstand storms and strong waves, the link sets a new standard for infrastructure innovation. Viewed from above, it resembles a giant bird soaring above the water or a kite floating above the sea.
extensive use of technology
Traffic management on this link has been optimized for safe travel, utilizing a variety of intelligent technologies, including big data and artificial intelligence. Additionally, intelligent robots are used in the undersea tunnels for daily inspections.
It took more than 14 years to build
Covering approximately 137,000 square meters, the size of approximately 19 football fields, it is located in the waters of Lingdingyang. The western artificial island of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link has become a new maritime landmark in the bay area.
The project, which includes bridges, islands, tunnels, and underwater interchanges, took more than 14 years to complete , employing over 15,000 workers.
