Dhaka: Bangladesh Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud on Monday said the country's development is not possible without good ties with India as the two countries share thousands of kilometres of border.
Hasan was responding to a question on the failed attempts by some groups on the internet media to urge people to boycott Indian products. The campaign is believed to have the backing of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia's Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's ruling Awami League got New Delhi's support during the January 7 elections.
It is difficult to maintain peace in Bangladesh without a neighbour
Mahmud said that without good relations with the neighbour, it would be difficult to maintain peace and stability in Bangladesh. Mahmud directly blamed the BNP for this campaign and said that they started it to create a crisis in the domestic market and destabilize Bangladesh's economy. Their efforts were unsuccessful.
