Bangladesh Court Order on Sheikh Hasina: A Bangladesh tribunal on Thursday (5 December) banned the broadcast of "hate speech" by ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is accused of killing protesters during the August Revolution. Due to which she had to leave the country.

Bangladesh is being investigated by the International Criminal Court (ICT) for a number of charges against Sheikh Hasina, including "mass murder" that took place during the August conflict that forced her to flee the country to neighbouring India.

What did the prosecutor say about banning Hasina's speeches ?

Prosecutor Golam Monawar Hossain Tamim told reporters, "Sheikh Hasina is currently accused in several cases that are being investigated by the tribunal." He further said, "We have demanded a ban on the broadcast of her hate speech, as it may obstruct the legal process or intimidate witnesses and victims."

He said, 'Confirming that ICT has agreed to implement this ban.' The prosecutor further said, "If his speeches continue to be broadcast, it will become difficult to bring witnesses to the tribunal."

The tribunal's order came after Sheikh Hasina's address

This order of the Bangladesh Tribunal comes a few days after the former Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina gave a virtual address to the program of Awami League workers held in New York. In her address, Sheikh Hasina accused the prominent leader of the interim government of Bangladesh, Muhammad Yunus, of "mass murder".

Hundreds of people were killed before Sheikh Hasina's coup

Hundreds of people were killed in Bangladesh a few weeks before Sheikh Hasina was ousted. Most of them died due to police firing. At the same time, many more people died after her power fell. Most of them were key supporters of her Awami League party.

ICT was established by Sheikh Hasina

The ICT was set up in 2010 by then Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to investigate atrocities committed during the country's 1971 independence war against Pakistan. In the years since, the ICT has handed death sentences to several prominent political opposition leaders.

The interim government led by Muhammad Yunus has sought the extradition of ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from India so that she can be tried by the tribunal.
