News Topical, Digital Desk : Pushkaraj Sabharwal, father of pilot Sumit Sabharwal, has approached the Supreme Court. He alleges that the government investigation report is false and that his son has been wrongly blamed for the accident. He has now demanded that the Supreme Court order a new judicially monitored investigation into the accident.

On June 12, 2025, an Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad Airport. The accident killed 229 passengers, 12 crew members, and 19 people on the ground. Pushkaraj Sabharwal, father of pilot Captain Sumit Sabharwal, has filed a petition in the Supreme Court.

These things have been said in the petition

The petition alleges that the government investigation is biased and incomplete. The report stated that the accident occurred due to pilot error, but in reality, the plane suffered a technical malfunction. At the time of the accident, the plane's Ram Air Turbine (RAT) automatically deployed, which occurs only when the plane's electrical or control systems fail. The petitioner argues that if there was a malfunction in the system, how can the pilot be held responsible? We want a completely impartial investigation. It is very wrong to tarnish the pilot's image after his death.

The Federation of Indian Pilots (FIP), a pilot organization, has also joined the petition. FIP argues that the investigation report ignores several technical aspects, such as the Boeing 787's software system (CCS) and electrical faults.

This allegation has been made in the petition

The petition also alleges that the Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) recording was leaked to the media, spreading false stories and damaging the pilot's image. The pilot's father stated in the petition that his son was an honest and experienced pilot. He flew 15,000 hours without any fault, but now he is being falsely accused.

The pilot's father stated that on August 30th, two members of the investigation team arrived at his home unannounced and claimed the accident was caused by his son's mistake. The father claims this is an attempt to conceal the truth and deflect responsibility. The petition calls on the Supreme Court to order a retired judge to supervise the investigation and to remove all government officials implicated in the report from the investigation.
