News Topical, Digital Desk : Four security personnel were injured in a militant attack on an Assam Police Commando camp in Assam's Tinsukia district early Sunday.

The ULFA (I) claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was carried out as part of "Operation Bujoni" to avenge repeated crackdowns against it by the Assam Police and an alleged drone strike by the Army on its camps last year. The attack comes just days before the April 9 assembly elections.

CM Himanta condemned the attack

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the attack was condemnable. The Assam Police and Army have launched a counter-offensive. Those responsible will be brought to justice. A police officer said the attack occurred around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday-Sunday midnight. The militants fired several rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) at the camp, five of which exploded.

Security personnel retaliated

Security personnel deployed at the camp retaliated. The officer said seven militants are suspected to have carried out the attack and fled across the Arunachal Pradesh border taking advantage of the darkness.

Four security personnel injured in the attack were taken to the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh for treatment. AMCH Superintendent Dhruvjyoti Bhuyan said all the injured were out of danger and in stable condition.
