News Topical, Digital Desk : About 25 years ago, a Salman Khan film was released that garnered more attention for its underworld connections than its success. The film's producers were jailed, and the distributors who invested in it because of Salman were also in trouble.

This film is "Chori Chori Chupke Chupke," released in 2001. Preity Zinta and Rani Mukerji played lead roles alongside Salman. Directed by Abbas-Mustan, the film was produced by Nazim Hasan Rizvi and Rahim Khan. The film was financed by Bharat Shah, who had previously co-produced "Dil Se" with Ram Gopal Varma.

The money was given because of Salman

Recently, Ram Gopal Varma revealed that this Salman Khan film had an underworld connection. In a podcast with crime author Hussain S. Zaidi, filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma recalled how the project began. He explained:

Bharat Shah was unaware of Nazim's connection

Ram Gopal Varma further explained that Bharat Shah was confident that everything was being done legally. However, things changed when he learned that the film's producer, Nazim Rizvi, had connections with underworld don Chhota Shakeel. At the time, Bharat Shah ignored this. He thought he was running a legitimate business, and if the producer had any ties to the underworld, what did he have to do with it? He (Nazim) wasn't even a criminal himself, he was just associated with one.

Bharat Shah trapped in the help affair

After this incident, many people began asking Bharat Shah for help. However, he wasn't doing this for money; he was just helping people. But when the matter became complicated, Bharat Shah also became entangled. The police were tracking his phone. Ram Gopal said, “He was in shock and trembling with fear. The police said that Shakeel might be working for you. Bharat Bhai said, 'Why would he work for me? I'm just a filmmaker.'”

Bharat Shah and Nazim Rizvi were arrested by the Mumbai police in 2001. Bharat Shah was found guilty of failing to disclose the producer's underworld connections and was sentenced to one year in prison.
