The accident occurred on Sunday night on NH-15 in Sonitpur district when an ambulance was carrying a patient to Tezpur Medical College. Local police arrived at the scene upon receiving information about the incident and transported the injured to the hospital.
What did the police say?
According to police, the ambulance was carrying a patient and his family members to Tezpur Medical College. It collided with an oncoming truck. The impact was so severe that six people died on the spot.
Six people confirmed dead
Sonitpur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Barun Purkayastha said six people died on the spot after the collision. The deceased are believed to include the patient, his family members, and ambulance staff.
Condition of two is serious
Two people were seriously injured in the accident and were admitted to Tezpur Medical College. Their condition remains critical. Traffic on the national highway was disrupted for some time after the accident. Traffic has resumed after the damaged vehicles were removed from the road.
