The film was the 1972 romantic drama "Koshish," starring Sanjeev Kumar in the lead role. The film also featured the late actor Asrani and Om Shivpuri in pivotal roles. Directed and written by Gulzar, it was one of the biggest hits of that year.

But you probably don't know that Moushumi Chatterjee was cast in "Koshish" before Jaya Bachchan. Moushumi had signed on and shot for three days. Moushumi once described the manipulations that were taking place during the shoot. Jaya Bachchan 's secretary would visit Gulzar Sahib regularly, and one day, a condition was placed on her that led to the actress withdrawing from the film.

Moushumi Chatterjee had recently become a mother, so shooting late into the night wasn't possible for her. When she told Gulzar about this, his response stung her. Moushumi was hurt by Gulzar's words and left the film. Jaya Bachchan replaced her as soon as she was out.
