The conversation focused on stopping the ongoing war in Ukraine and reducing tensions with Iran. President Trump described the conversation as "very good and productive."

Speaking to reporters, Trump revealed that he had suggested a temporary ceasefire in the Ukraine conflict to Putin. Expressing optimism, Trump said, "I think Putin can do that." Trump emphasized his relationship with Putin, saying they have known each other for a long time, which could prove helpful in finding a diplomatic solution.

Discussion on Iran tensions

In addition to Ukraine, the two leaders also discussed the ongoing tensions in Iran and the issue of enriched uranium there. Putin offered Russia's assistance to resolve these tensions. However, Trump prioritized Putin, telling him that he would like the Russian president to focus first on ending the Ukraine war.

This lengthy conversation between Trump and Putin was confirmed by Kremlin adviser Yuri Ushakov. He stated that the conversation between the two leaders lasted more than 90 minutes. He added that Putin expressed his readiness to declare a ceasefire during Victory Day, celebrated on May 9th. Trump openly supported this idea, as this day marks a historic victory between Russia and the United States.

Discussion on the Ukraine war

Ushakov said that Donald Trump asked for information about the Ukraine war, to which Putin told him that the Russian army has the upper hand on the battlefield, Russian soldiers are pushing back the opposing army (Ukraine) from their positions.

The two leaders shared a similar view of Ukrainian President Zelensky. According to the Kremlin, "Both Trump and Putin believe that the current Ukrainian administration is focusing on prolonging tensions rather than de-escalating them."
