News Topical, Digital Desk : Several states in North India, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Bihar, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh, are reeling from a heatwave. However, thunderstorms, clouds, and scattered rain have brought signs of relief in some states. The most severe impact was seen in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, where the mercury reached close to 46 degrees.

Banda was the hottest district in Uttar Pradesh with a high of 46.6 degrees Celsius, while Kota in Rajasthan recorded 44.8 degrees Celsius and Churu 43. The mercury surpassing 40 degrees Celsius in 10 Rajasthan cities indicates a widespread heatwave.

Heat wave wreaks havoc in UP 

The Meteorological Department has indicated that relief will be limited for the next two days. In Uttar Pradesh, heat waves have disrupted daily routines in Banda and Prayagraj. Temperatures in Kanpur also reached 45.7 degrees Celsius. The heat wave is expected to continue until Monday, with some relief expected from Tuesday.

Heat wave in Rajasthan too

Heat wave-like conditions persist in Rajasthan, with the effects of the heat clearly visible in the western and eastern regions. In Uttarakhand, the April heat broke a 17-year record. With temperatures reaching 39.2 degrees Celsius in Dehradun and the possibility of a heat wave in the plains, the administration has ordered schools and Anganwadi centers closed as a precautionary measure, underscoring the severity of the crisis posed by this heat wave.

Mercury crosses 40 in Haridwar 

In Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar too, the mercury crossed 40 degrees on Sunday. On the other hand, an orange alert was issued for hailstorm and lightning in the hilly districts. In Himachal, the warning of heat wave in Una, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi and Solan has made it clear that the heat is having an impact in the hilly state as well. The temperature in Una was recorded at 41.8 degrees, while at many places the temperature was recorded two to seven degrees above normal. The picture remained somewhat different in Bihar. Amidst the scorching heat, the weather seemed to take a turn from Sunday.

Patna's condition is bad due to heat 

A 6.4 degree drop in Patna's temperature brought relief. However, Kaimur remained the hottest at 43.5 degrees. Thunderstorm warnings in northern Bihar and 75.4 mm of rain in Kishanganj indicated that pre-monsoon activities had begun to pick up in some areas. Several cities in Madhya Pradesh continued to experience intense heat on Sunday. The mercury in Indore reached 43 degrees Celsius after seven years. The intense heat wave continues in Chhattisgarh.

Heat wave alert issued

The capital Raipur recorded a maximum temperature of 44.2 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 28.3 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department has issued a heatwave alert. Heatwave conditions have affected normal life in Jammu, Kathua, Samba, Reasi, and Udhampur districts of the Jammu division. The heatwave will continue in these districts for the next two days. The maximum temperature in Jammu has been hovering around 40 degrees Celsius for the past three days, while the temperature in Kathua is above 40 degrees Celsius.
