News Topical, Digital Desk : The National Green Tribunal has sought response from the Central Pollution Control Board and others on media reports of supply of sewage-contaminated water to residents in several cities in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. The environment body on Tuesday took suo motu cognizance of reports related to the alleged supply of contaminated water.

The tribunal bench headed by Justice Prakash Srivastava and expert member A Senthil Vel said the first report highlighted serious health risks as sewage water was mixing with drinking water pipelines due to decades-old and dilapidated infrastructure in several cities of Rajasthan, including Udaipur, Jodhpur, Kota, Banswara, Jaipur, Ajmer and Bora.

The bench said the report claimed that these cities in Rajasthan could face a tragedy like the one in Indore. Recently, seven people died in Indore's Bhagirathpura area due to diarrhoea caused by consumption of contaminated water.

The bench also took note of another report according to which several residents of Greater Noida (Sector Delta 1) had fallen ill with symptoms like vomiting and diarrhoea after consuming drinking water contaminated with sewage.
