News Topical, Digital Desk : The National Medical Commission (NMC) has directed that post graduate medical students be deployed in flood affected areas. This decision has been taken at a time when many northern states are facing natural disasters due to continuous rains.

According to a circular issued by the commission on Saturday, deployment of post graduate medical students in flood or disaster affected areas in northern states and union territories will be considered as part of District Residency Programme (DRP) training. This DRP provides an opportunity to students to understand the health needs of the people at the field level.

Home Ministry appealed

The Commission said that in the wake of situations like the recent flood disaster, there is an urgent need for health professionals to assist in relief operations. This initiative will not only provide essential health services at the field level but will also give young medical professionals an opportunity to gain valuable experience in disaster response, public health management and community service.

The Home Ministry has also appealed to strengthen the health services through the available resources, and many post graduate doctors have expressed their willingness to offer their services. The Commission has considered this opportunity as a unique opportunity to learn and serve, and has considered it a valuable component of post graduate training.
