How did an alert from Meta save a girl's life? Police arrived in 5 minutes and prevented suicide

News Topical, Digital Desk : An alert from Meta has saved the life of a young woman in Uttar Pradesh. In fact, on August 12, a 35-year-old woman working at a cosmetic shop in Gorakhnath police station in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh attempted suicide. The woman posted a video on Instagram, making a noose of her dupatta from the ceiling fan and putting it around her neck. After this, the police received an alert through e-mail and the girl's life was saved.

How did Meta send the alert?

On August 12, after the girl posted the video on Instagram, at 08:42 PM, an alert was received from Meta Company via e-mail at the social media center located at the headquarters director general of police. Taking immediate cognizance of this, the higher authorities were informed. Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police Rajiv Krishna directed for immediate action on the said alert. Taking cognizance of the alert sent by Meta Company, the headquarters' social media center immediately got the information of the girl's location on the basis of the mobile number provided in the alert received and the district Gorakhpur was informed about the matter. 

How was the girl's life saved?

On the information and location provided by the headquarters, the police station in-charge of Gorakhnath police station along with lady sub-inspector and policemen reached the girl's house in just 05 minutes and immediately reached the girl's room along with the family members, where the girl was seen trying to commit suicide by hanging herself, the girl was panting heavily and was in extreme depression. The girl was given first aid at home by the police personnel with the help of the family members.

Why did the girl try to commit suicide?

When the girl became normal, the police personnel inquired from her, she told that the financial condition of her house is not good due to which she remains upset. Due to this reason, the girl had taken such a step with the intention of committing suicide due to depression. The local police reached on time and stopped the girl from committing suicide and counseling was done, on which the girl assured not to make such a mistake in future. The girl's family thanked the UP Police for the promptness and cooperation of the policemen of the local police station.

MoU between UP Police and Meta

Under the arrangement between Uttar Pradesh Police and Meta Company, which is in practice since the year 2022, if any person posts about committing suicide on Facebook or Instagram, then Uttar Pradesh Police is informed about such post by Meta Company by sending an alert through e-mail and phone. A total of 1257 lives have been saved by Uttar Pradesh Police by taking cognizance of the alerts received on suicide related posts between 01-01-2023 to 12-08-2025.
