Chris also became single after splitting from 35-year-old American actress Dakota Johnson in June after nearly eight years together and a secret engagement.

Sophie is a Coldplay superfan and she was reportedly left "in tears" by Chris' birthday message in a video from her ex-husband Joe Jonas. In the video, taken from Joe's show Cup of Jo in 2020, Sophie was surprised on her birthday by her ex-husband by showing her a video of her now new boyfriend.

Sitting in a restaurant, Joe handed his phone to the actress and said, "I have someone who wants to wish you a happy birthday." Sophie, with her hands on her face in surprise, screamed, "It's Chris Martin." In the video, Chris said, “I'm Chris from Coldplay. On behalf of myself and the other beautiful members of our band, I wanted to say, 'Have a nice day. I'm sending you all my love, and I hope you're all having a great time.'”
