News Topical, Digital Desk : Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum was speaking to people in Mexico City's historic district on Tuesday when a man, who appeared to be intoxicated, approached her and tried to touch her. A government official quickly intervened and defused the situation.

A video circulating on social media shows the man leaning in and trying to kiss and touch the president. Sheinbaum remained calm, gently removing his hands and turning to him with a slight smile. She can be heard saying in the video, “ Don't worry. ”

Questions arising on security

There has been no official statement from the President's office on the incident. The video also shows that his security team is not visible nearby, raising questions about his security.

Like her predecessor and political mentor, former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, Claudia Sheinbaum is known for her direct engagement with the public. She often goes into crowds to shake hands and pose for selfies.

Political violence spread across the country

The incident comes as President Sheinbaum faces questions about political violence in the country. She has repeatedly addressed questions about security and violence following the recent assassination of a mayor in the western state of Michoacan. She also met with the mayor's widow on Tuesday.
