The CBI has registered an FIR against former TMC leader Shahjahan Sheikh, accused in the case. Three BJP workers were killed in the violence that took place on June 8, 2019. When the North 24 Parganas district police was investigating the case, Shahjahan's name was in the initial chargesheet.

Case filed in Calcutta High Court

However, his name was removed from the chargesheet after the state police's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) took over the investigation. Accusing the state police of protecting Shahjahan in the case, the relatives of the deceased filed a case in the Calcutta High Court and demanded a CBI inquiry.

On June 30, a single bench of Justice Jay Sengupta of the High Court ordered a CBI probe into the matter. Apart from the attack on ED and Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) personnel in early 2024, Shahjahan faces other charges including involvement in the ration distribution case worth crores of rupees in Bengal, sexual harassment of women and land grabbing in Sandeshkhali.

He is currently in judicial custody. The CBI is already investigating these three cases of attack on ED officials, sexual harassment of women and land grabbing in Sandeshkhali.
