Main Hoon Na starred Shah Rukh Khan, Sushmita Sen, Zayed Khan , and Amrita Rao. Amrita Rao, who played Sanjana in the film, was well-received. However, Farah has now revealed that another actress was originally cast in the role.
The actress had rejected Main Hoon Na at the last moment.
Recently, Farah Khan visited Amrita Rao's house and shared the story of Main Hoon Na. She explained that the film had been cast, with locations, costumes, and crew all ready. Shooting was scheduled to take place in Darjeeling, with only two weeks remaining. But then, the actress playing Sanjana turned down the role, leaving Farah distraught.

Ayesha Takia was supposed to play Sanjana in Main Hoon Na. Regarding this, Farah said in a video shared on her YouTube channel, “My shoot schedule was fixed, locations in Darjeeling were booked, but I didn't have a heroine. We had originally cast Ayesha Takia for Sanjana's role, but she left to shoot for Imtiaz Ali's film. She told me she would be going for four days, but she didn't return for two months. She was shooting for the movie Socha Na Tha.”

Farah Khan further added, "I told her, 'You haven't done costume trials or rehearsals. How will we shoot?' She said, 'Sorry ma'am, I can't come. Imtiaz sir hasn't finished shooting yet.' I was very upset. It was my first film and my heroine had disappeared."
Amrita got the role because of Gauri Khan
Shah Rukh Khan's wife, Gauri Khan, was the one who approached Amrita Rao. She showed Farah a photo of Amrita. She had seen the actress in a Bru ad. However, Farah felt she wasn't exactly what she envisioned in a heroine. Amrita arrived to meet Farah wearing jeans and a kurta. Finally, Farah auditioned Amrita and was astonished.
Farah was surprised to see Amrita's audition.
Recalling Amrita Rao's audition moment, Farah said, "I asked Amrita to do the emotional scene where she breaks down and tells SRK everything. As soon as I saw her through the lens, I was amazed. She looked completely different, magical. I was reminded of Sridevi. Even when Sridevi's rehearsals looked good, she would light up as soon as the camera rolled."
