America's newly elected President Donald Trump has received a big setback from a New York court before his swearing-in ceremony. The judge rejected his request to delay sentencing in the hush money case.

Judge Juan Marchan ruled last week that Trump's sentence should take place regardless of his swearing-in ceremony. Trump's lawyers argued that his election victory should end the case, but the judge did not agree.

• Prosecutors had opposed the sentencing delay and said it should proceed as planned barring a successful last-minute appeal by Trump to the high court.
• "This court has considered the defendant's arguments and finds that most of them are a repetition of arguments raised in the past," Merchan said.
• Defendant's motion to stay the sentencing hearing scheduled for January 10, 2025 is DENIED.

Trump has the option to be present online

Judge Marchen has also given Trump the option of being present in person or online during the sentencing. He said that he does not intend to send the former and future president to jail. Let us tell you that Trump is the first former president to be convicted of a crime.
