News Topical, Digital Desk : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday released its manifesto for the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, promising to implement the Uniform Civil Code and increase the monthly direct bank transfer amount given to women under the 'Arunodoi' scheme to Rs 3,000.

Listing the 31 promises, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the BJP aims to make Assam the "brightest state". Following in the footsteps of Uttarakhand and Gujarat and adopting the BJP's core agenda, the Chief Minister promised UCC and action against alleged 'love jihad'.

CM Sarma made a flurry of promises

He said the UCC will not cover areas under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution and will not be applicable to tribal communities.

CM Sarma said, "We want to make Assam the most glorious state. We do not want to be a dependent state. We want to take part in the nation-building of the country. We have made 31 promises in the manifesto. We will implement the UCC in Assam, which will not include the Sixth Schedule and STs. We will take strict action against 'love jihad'. We will try to make Assam flood-free and we will spend Rs 18,000 crore in the first two years."

Women will get a gift

He also assured to give Rs 25,000 to 40 lakh women under the 'Lakhpati Didi' scheme with the aim of making them lakhpatis.

The CM said, "We will provide 2 lakh jobs in the next five years. We want to create 'one district, one medical college, one university, one engineering college'. We want to give Rs 25,000 to every woman with the aim of making 40 lakh women of Assam 'Lakhpati Didi'. We will try to increase the amount of Rs 1250 under the 'Arunodaya Yojana' to Rs 3000."

Chief Minister Sarma, along with Union Ministers Nirmala Sitharaman and Sarbananda Sonowal, and state BJP president Dilip Saikia were also present at the event. Saikia said the BJP's goal is to create a "safe Assam, a developed Assam."

Voting for all 126 assembly seats will be held in a single phase on April 9, while the counting of votes is scheduled for May 4. The 126-seat Assam Assembly will see a contest between the ruling BJP-led NDA alliance and the Congress.
