UPI payment Foreign Minister S Jaishankar, who is on a visit to Maldives, made a big announcement today. Jaishankar said that India and Maldives signed an agreement to launch Unified Payment Interface (UPI) in the archipelago nation.
Agreement signed to promote tourism
Actually, this agreement was done to promote the tourism sector of Maldives. The MoU was signed on Friday during Jaishankar's three-day official visit to Maldives. He said in a post on X, "MoU was signed between National Payment Corporation of India and the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Maldives to launch digital payment system in Maldives."
Developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), Unified Payments Interface (UPI) is an instant real-time payment system to facilitate inter-bank transactions through mobile phones.
