News Topical, Digital Desk : In line with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's vision of a "Developed Uttar Pradesh @ 2047," the Tourism Department has released its roadmap toward achieving a $6 trillion economy by 2047. Under this, the department has set an ambitious goal of establishing the state as the spiritual and cultural capital of the world by 2047.
In this direction, the target has been set to gradually increase UP's contribution to the country's tourism-based Gross Value Added (GVA) from the current level of about 9.2 percent to 11 percent by the year 2029-30, 14 percent by the year 2035-36 and 16 percent by the year 2046-47.
Target to increase room availability to 150
To achieve Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's vision of a developed Uttar Pradesh @ 2047, the Tourism Department will accelerate efforts to strengthen the state's tourism infrastructure. To this end, large-scale beautification and restoration of sites of tourist and cultural importance have been undertaken during Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's tenure.
Additionally, under the UP Tourism Policy 2022, tourism-based infrastructure, including hotels, restaurants, and homestays, has been rapidly developed in the state. In this regard, the target is to increase the number of rooms available for tourists from the current 30 per lakh population to 150 by 2047. Furthermore, the target is to increase the average length of stay for foreign tourists in the state from the current 3 nights to 6 nights by 2046-47.

Uttar Pradesh is also working to further strengthen its position as the number one tourist destination. While Uttar Pradesh has surpassed all other states in domestic tourist arrivals, it also ranks fourth in foreign tourist arrivals, a figure that will be increased with every effort. As per the standards of a tourism-based economy, one tourist visiting the state generates income for six people.
In this direction, in addition to the record 660 million tourists who visited the grand Maha Kumbh Mela in 2025, 649 million tourists were recorded visiting other tourist destinations in the state. The Tourism Department has set a target to increase this number of tourists to 750 million by 2029-30 and 1 billion by 2047.
The target is to increase the number of UNESCO-recognized heritage sites to 20.
To establish Uttar Pradesh on the global tourism map, special emphasis is being placed on increasing the number of tangible and intangible cultural heritage sites recognized by UNESCO. Currently, the state has seven UNESCO-recognized heritage sites, with a target of increasing this number to eight by 2029-30, 14 by 2035-36, and 20 by 2047. This initiative will play a significant role in gaining global recognition for the state's rich cultural heritage and will also attract foreign tourists.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath 's vision of "Developed Uttar Pradesh @ 2047" will play a key role in giving a new impetus to the state's tourism-based economy and in showcasing the state's cultural heritage more effectively on the world stage. The development of Kashi, Ayodhya, Prayagraj, and Mathura-Vrindavan, the centers of Sanatan culture and India's ancient civilization, is not only boosting tourism activities in Uttar Pradesh but also establishing Uttar Pradesh as a global spiritual tourism hub. This is also ensuring employment generation and growth of the local economy in the state.
