Rules of Ekadashi fasting
The importance of Ekadashi fast has been mentioned in Skanda Purana. The rules of observing Ekadashi fast are strict. The person observing the fast has to observe the fast from sunset on the first day of Ekadashi i.e. Dashami Tithi till sunrise on the next day of Ekadashi.
What to do on Ekadashi fasting day
- Ekadashi fasting should be started at the time of sunset on Dashami Tithi.
- On the day of Ekadashi, wake up in the Brahma Muhurta. After completing your daily chores, worship Lord Vishnu.
- On the day of Dashami Tithi, one should eat food without salt.
- On the day of the fast, chant Vishnu ji's mantras in your mind; do not talk much.
- During the fast, one can consume fresh fruits, dry fruits, sugar, buckwheat flour, coconut, olives, milk, ginger, black pepper, rock salt, potatoes, sago, sweet potatoes etc.
