Their debut album, "The Better Life," sold over 6 million copies. In 2003, they received their second Grammy nomination for the song "When I'm Gone." The band said Arnold "helped redefine mainstream rock music, combining the ease of post-grunge with emotionally direct songwriting and lyrical themes that resonated with the general audience."

3 Doors Down released six albums, the most recent being 'Us and the Night' in 2016. Singles included 'Loser,' 'Duck and Run,' and 'Be Like That,' which was on the soundtrack to the 2001 film 'American Pie 2.'

While promoting his fifth album, "Time of My Life," Arnold said he considers himself lucky to have a career in the music business. "If you do something for as long as we have, you can't help but get better at it, right?" Arnold told the Associated Press in 2011.
