News Topical, Digital Desk : A shocking news has come from Natanga village of Ganjam district of Odisha. Here an 80-year-old Kamaraju Nayak had to remain hungry for 7 days just because of brushing his teeth. Actually, while he was brushing his teeth like every day, a piece of the toothstick accidentally went down his throat and got stuck in the food pipe.
As soon as the toothpick got stuck, Kamaraju started having severe chest pain and unbearable pain in the stomach. The family initially tried several home remedies, but his condition worsened as the toothpick could not come out. From the very first day, he was having trouble swallowing food, and gradually his condition became such that he was not able to swallow even a single morsel.
The operation was risky due to old age
After taking Kamaraju to many medical centres, his family finally took him to MKCG Medical College in Brahmapur. Here, Dr. Sanjit Kumar Mishra of the ENT department and his team conducted an immediate examination. The examination revealed that a piece of toothstick was stuck in the food pipe. Due to Kamaraju's old age, the operation was risky. He also had high blood pressure and many other health problems. In such a situation, the doctors planned the treatment very carefully.
'Esophagoscopy' technique used
A 9-member team of doctors used a technique called 'esophagoscopy'. In this process, a special tube is inserted inside the throat through which the things inside can be seen and removed. The toothstick was taken out by applying pressure slowly through this tube. The operation was completely successful and now Kamaraju Nayak is feeling better than before.
What did the doctor say?
According to Dr Mishra, this was a very challenging case considering the age and condition of the elderly man. Before surgery, his entire medical history was taken into consideration.
This incident tells us that small precautions are necessary for the elderly. If you are not careful while brushing your teeth with a toothpick or any hard object, it can lead to a life-threatening situation. If there was no timely treatment, the condition could have become more serious
