News Topical, Digital Desk : Tensions erupted into violence near the Jagaddal police station on Sunday night, with fierce clashes between supporters of rival political parties ahead of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. The incident occurred just as Prime Minister Narendra Modi was scheduled to hold a rally in the area.
Crude bombs were reportedly thrown and gunfire was reported. A CISF jawan was injured and is being treated at Bhatpara State General Hospital.
How did the violence erupt?
According to reports, BJP candidate Rajesh Kumar arrived at the police station around 10 p.m. to obtain a copy of a case allegedly filed against Mamata Banerjee. Around the same time, Trinamool Congress councilor Manoj Pandey arrived with party supporters.
BJP leader Arjun Singh also arrived at the police station soon after. Eyewitnesses alleged that as soon as he got out of his car, tensions flared and a heated altercation broke out, which quickly escalated into violence.
There were also reports of crude bomb throwing and firing.
Local sources claim that a Trinamool worker was allegedly attacked first, prompting retaliatory action from the other side. The clash soon spread to Ghoshpara Road, where a fierce scuffle broke out between the two groups. Reports of crude bombs being thrown and gunfire also emerged, further fueling the panic in the area.
