The body of a 35-year-old man was found lying in a dry canal on the Sisana-Santoshpur road. Passersby spotted him around 11 a.m. on Sunday morning. They alerted the surrounding community, and a crowd gathered at the scene.
Baghpat CO Vijay Chaudhary and Kotwali in-charge Brijesh Kumar arrived at the scene and investigated. They attempted to identify him. A part of the shirt he was wearing was wrapped around his neck.
People suspected that the killers strangled him with his own shirt. He may have tried to defend himself, so they assaulted him and struck him on the head with an object.
Meanwhile, CO Vijay Chaudhary said that the young man's body was covered in coal soot. A piece of his shirt was tied around his neck and he had a head injury. "Krishnapal P Shakuntala" was written on his hand.
It is suspected that the young man was strangled to death and then thrown into the canal. The post-mortem report will reveal the exact cause. A police team has been sent to the brick kilns to identify him. The incident will be solved soon.
