News Topical, Digital Desk : Actor-turned-politician and Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay is meeting the families of those killed in the Karur stampede at a private hotel in Mamallapuram, exactly a month after the stampede claimed the lives of 41 people.
More than 200 people have come to meet Vijay. This includes 37 families, some of whom were injured in the stampede. Four to five people from each family have come to meet Vijay. It is reported that the actor will console each of them individually.
Closed-door meeting
The meeting is taking place behind closed doors, with restrictions in place, and only TVK personnel are allowed in. The current move to bring the victims' families to Chennai has drawn criticism, with many questioning why Vijay didn't go to Karur instead.
20 lakh rupees were given to the affected families before Diwali.
Party sources said Vijay had initially planned to visit Karur in person, but had to change the location due to logistical difficulties. Before Diwali, TVK transferred 2 million rupees as relief assistance to the families of those killed in the stampede at the party's rally in Karur. On September 27, a stampede at Vijay's rally in Karur killed 41 people and injured more than 50.
