News Topical, Digital Desk : A shocking incident came to light on Sunday (March 15) evening in the Kargi Grant area of Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand. A police team from the Patel Nagar police station raided a dilapidated house in a narrow alley near the Big Mosque and recovered approximately 15 kilograms of chopped beef and 30 kilograms of animal internal remains. Two sharp knives and a chopper were also seized from the scene. Shockingly, the three accused fled before police arrived.

A cow was slaughtered near the Badi Masjid in Kargil Grant.

On Sunday afternoon, at around 1:32 pm, Sub-Inspector Baldeep Singh and his team headed for Kargi Chowk. Cheetah personnel, Constable Shivraj Singh and Constable Anoj Singh Rana, were already patrolling the area. As the police team approached the water tank near the Vigilance Office, a special informant informed them that a dilapidated house was located in the street near the Big Mosque in Kargi Grant. It housed a chicken shop in the front and some closed rooms behind the shop, where a cow had been slaughtered and the meat was still lying there. The informant stated that if immediate action was taken, the meat could be seized.

The team immediately assembled, meat, tools and remains were found in the rooms.

Taking the information seriously, Sub-Inspector Baldeep Singh immediately informed Senior Sub-Inspector Pramod Shah, the in-charge, over the phone. Veterinary doctor Dr. Vijay Pratap Singh was also called to the scene. Constable Vipin Kumar, a Cheetah officer stationed in the area, was also immediately summoned. Shortly thereafter, Senior Sub-Inspector Pramod Shah arrived from the local police station in a government vehicle.

The entire team arrived at the informant's location and, upon entering, found approximately 15 kilograms of chopped meat in a plastic crate. A plastic drum containing approximately 30 kilograms of animal gut remains was also found. Two knives and a chopper were also recovered near the drum. Adjacent to the room, within a plastic-covered enclosure, was a meat shop, where some chopped chicken pieces were also found.

Veterinarian Dr. Vijay Pratap Singh, who was present at the scene, inspected the recovered meat and, based on his experience, declared it to be cow meat. Samples were taken from the meat in two plastic containers for testing, securely sealed, and a sample stamp was prepared. These were sent for veterinary inspection. The remaining meat and animal remains were handed over to Cheetah personnel for destruction.

All three accused fled before the police arrived.

When people nearby were questioned about the house, they said the shop and ruined rooms belonged to Uvesh, Haji Matloob, and Mabroor. Before the police arrived, all three accused had fled the scene. Two knives used at the scene—one cubits long and one cubits long—and an axe, six inches wide and one cubits long, were sealed and taken to the police station with a sample seal.

Another incident emerged during the entire proceedings that raises questions about the system. When the public present at the scene was asked to testify, none of them showed any readiness. Citing the court case, everyone left without revealing their names or addresses.

An FIR has been registered against the three accused under sections 3/5/11.
