News Topical, Digital Desk : Do you ever feel that despite your hard work, life is still facing obstacles? According to the Garuda Purana, a major reason for this could be Pitru Dosha.

'Chaitra Amavasya', which comes just before the start of Hindu New Year and Chaitra Navratri, brings an opportunity to get rid of these problems.

Confusion about the date and the correct time

According to the Panchang, this year Chaitra Amavasya will begin on March 18, 2026, at 8:25 am and will end on March 19, at 6:52 am .

Since, 'Udaya Tithi' (the date when the sun rises) is of utmost importance in Hinduism, therefore, March 19, 2026 will be considered the most auspicious day for holy bath and charity .

Brahma Muhurat for bathing: 05:08 AM to 05:56 AM on March 19 .

Abhijit Muhurat for donation and worship: 12:22 pm to 01:11 pm is the best .

How to perform puja and ancestor offerings?

Holy Bath: On the new moon day, wake up early in the morning and bathe in a holy river. If going to the river isn't possible, don't be discouraged. Add a little Ganga water to your bath water at home. This purifies both the body and mind.

Pitru Tarpan: Sit facing south, remembering your ancestors. Mix water and some black sesame seeds in a copper pot and offer the water to your ancestors with love.

Great donations and water donation: The month of Chaitra marks the beginning of summer, so donating water (Jaldaan) on this day is considered the greatest virtue. Additionally, donate grains, jaggery, or clothes to the poor or Brahmins.

Lighting a lamp: In the evening, light a mustard oil lamp in the south direction of your home or under a Peepal tree. This is believed to bring peace to the souls of your ancestors and ensure their blessings remain with your family.

What do the scriptures say?

The details and significance of offering prayers to ancestors, bathing, and donating on the new moon day are detailed in our ancient scriptures, such as the Puranas, the Agni Purana, and the Matsya Purana. These scriptures clearly state that the new moon day is specifically dedicated to the ancestors.
