News Topical, Digital Desk : Veteran Bollywood actress Aruna Irani is mostly known for her negative roles in cinema. She once starred opposite Amitabh Bachchan as the lead actress in a film, but after that, she mostly appeared in silent roles.
The actress recently appeared in Shahid Kapoor's film O Romeo. In an interview, she spoke about the shortage of character artists. Actress Aruna Irani, who has played character roles in numerous films, attributes this to actresses who now take on such roles for the sake of friendship and higher fees.
Other actresses play our roles.
The actress said, "Earlier, heroines were just heroines; they didn't play secondary or secondary roles. Bindu, Jayshree, and I were called in for that. We would dance, play a vamp, or play a friend and get away with it. Today, the roles that Bindu and I used to play are now also played by actresses who have previously played lead roles in other films."
Some make friendships out of friendship, some she does the role with a good force. In such a situation, when those character roles that we used to play are now played, then their film looks even bigger. They do not think that this role should be done by a character artist so that it looks credible. Now whether it is the main actress of the film or a second or third number actress, they do not look like that. Now when filmmakers bring another heroine of the same stature along with an actress, then their film looks even bigger.
Credibility increases due to the artist's work
Aruna further said, "He doesn't think about having a character artist play the role so that it looks believable. Whether it's the lead actress or the second or third-place actress, he sees no difference.
In the past, the heroine was the main lead, and the rest of us played supporting roles, so the story also had a fresh feel. Earlier, producers and directors would specifically write such characters. Today, producers and directors have removed such characters from their films.
Aruna calls herself lucky
In this vein, remembering showman Raj Kapoor, Aruna says, "I am fortunate to have worked with such a great director. Raj Sahib was an actor himself, so he knew exactly what he wanted from his actors. He would even rehearse the roles for the character artists. This made our work 50 percent easier."
Aruna has appeared in over 300 films in her career. However, she has mostly played negative roles. Aruna began her career at the age of just nine.
