News Topical, Digital Desk : Monday is the day dedicated to Lord Shiva. We often visit temples or chant "Om Namah Shivay" during our home prayers. But have you ever felt that even after years of chanting, you still don't get the peace or results you hoped for?
In fact, as innocent as Mahadev is, his mantras are equally powerful. There is a specific method for chanting these mantras. 'Om Namah Shivaya' is not just a five-syllable mantra (Panchakshari). It encompasses the five elements of creation—earth, water, fire, air, and space. When we chant it, we balance these five elements within ourselves.
Correct method of chanting on Monday
- Although Mahadev is awake all the time, chanting done on Monday during 'Brahma Muhurta' (4 to 6 am) or Pradosh Kaal (at sunset) shows the quickest effect.
- After bathing, wear white or light-colored cotton clothes. Sit facing north or east.
- If you're chanting with a rosary, always use a Rudraksha rosary. Recite the mantra with each bead clearly and calmly.
- If you're in a crowd, chant silently (mental japa), which is considered the most powerful. If you're alone at home, keep your voice low so the sound of the mantra reaches your ears.
- Remember Lord Shiva before beginning your chanting, and at the end, ask for forgiveness for any mistakes. Mahadeva is hungry for feelings, not words.
What do the scriptures say?
The most detailed description of the significance of this mantra and its rules is found in the Vidyeshwara Samhita of the Shiva Purana. Furthermore, the Linga Purana and Skanda Purana also state that by continuously chanting " Om Namah Shivaya, " a person is free from the fear of premature death and attains salvation.
