News Topical, Digital Desk : Samajwadi Party (SP) chief whip in Lok Sabha and Azamgarh MP Dharmendra Yadav has said that his party will introduce a private bill in Parliament, demanding separate reservation for OBC (Other Backward Classes) and Muslim women under the Women's Reservation Act.

Yadav said that the opposition supported the Women's Reservation Act passed in 2023, but the government delayed its notification by three years. He questioned, "If reservation was to be implemented based on the 2011 census, why was there a need to introduce a new draft in 2023?" Dharmendra Yadav also targeted the government regarding delimitation. He said that the opposition's confidence has weakened after the delimitation in Jammu and Kashmir and Assam, and that is why the opposition is questioning the government's intentions.

Preparations to introduce a private member bill

The SP MP alleged that the current law lacks clarity regarding the representation of OBC and Muslim women. He called this the "biggest flaw." Yadav said, “To address this flaw, the Samajwadi Party is preparing to introduce a private member's bill in Parliament.”

Any MP who is not a minister can introduce a private member's bill. This draws attention to issues of public interest. Dharmendra Yadav also said that his party has always supported women's reservation , but it is important to implement it equally for women of all classes. Yadav said that it is unfortunate that the government's intentions regarding this bill are not clear at all.
