News Topical, Digital Desk : The US Supreme Court has supported President Donald Trump's tough stance on immigration. In a majority decision on Monday, the court cleared the way for federal agents to conduct immigration operations in Los Angeles. This is a victory for President Donald Trump's administration.
Although three Supreme Court justices publicly disagreed with the decision, the court granted the Justice Department's request for a temporary stay of a federal judge's order barring agents from detaining people without “reasonable suspicion.”
Some judges expressed disagreement
The Supreme Court, by a 6-3 majority, issued the brief order without explanation. Some of the justices themselves have criticized it. Justice Sotomayor wrote in her dissent, “Rather than stand idly by while our constitutional liberties are eroded, I disagree.”
US District Judge Maame Frimpong in Los Angeles found on July 11 that the Trump administration's actions likely violated protections against unreasonable searches and seizures under the Fourth Amendment to the US Constitution.
National Guard troops were sent to Los Angeles
Trump sent National Guard troops and US Marines to Los Angeles in June to help control protests against federal immigration raids. Local officials and California's Democratic governor, Gavin Newsom, opposed the deployment and called it unlawful.
