Thiruvananthapuram: Malayalam actor Maniyanpilla Raju's car collides with his bike, police allege hit-and-run

News Topical, Digital Desk : Veteran actor Maniyanpilla Raju was involved in a road accident near the Trivandrum Club in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital of Kerala, on Thursday night. The car of veteran actor Maniyanpilla Raju hit a motorcycle and he fled from the scene.

Two young men riding the bike were seriously injured in the accident. One suffered a leg fracture, while the other suffered a spinal injury and was hospitalized.

The injured were identified as Suraj and Nidev, both 20, both residents of Thiruvananthapuram. According to police, the accident occurred around 9:30 p.m. Thursday night in front of the Trivandrum Club on the Vellayambalam-Vazhuthakkad Road.
 

Actor Raju fled the scene after the collision.

Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident. According to preliminary information, Trivandrum club star Maniyanpilla Raju's car struck two young men riding a bike and then fled the scene. Raju remained missing for about ten hours after the incident.

Police registered a case

After preliminary investigations, police confirmed that the vehicle was being driven by Raju. Police have registered a hit-and-run case against actor Maniyanpilla Raju for reckless driving and failing to help the injured.

According to PTI report, a case has been registered against the car driver under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and Motor Vehicles Act for rash driving, negligent act endangering life and refusing to render assistance to a person injured in the accident.

What did actor Raju say?

Actor Raju went to the police station on Friday morning, about 10 hours after the incident. Raju told police, "I was driving slowly to cross the street when a motorcycle hit my car. I heard a noise and saw someone fall. After leaving the scene, I contacted a person and asked him to arrange for an ambulance."

Raju confirmed

Actor Raju confirmed that he was driving the car and that he left the scene due to his ill health. He said, "I'm a cancer patient and now I've also contracted chikungunya. Besides, my wife was home alone." Raju said he had contacted the police and informed them that he wouldn't be able to appear that night.
