News Topical, Digital Desk : After a military court sentenced former ISI chief Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed to 14 years in prison, preparations have intensified to take strict action against Imran Khan.

According to high-level sources, this sentence sets a precedent that will lead to former Prime Minister Imran Khan being charged with treason and pave the way for a ban on his party, the PTI. Meanwhile, MP Faisal Vawda said the army chief is cleaning up the army's mess.

Hameed's testimony and the evidence gathered are being cited as the foundation of a case against Imran Khan. The Federal Law Ministry has held meetings in this regard and is now preparing to formally prosecute Imran Khan under the Official Secrets Act.

What is the allegation ?

It is alleged that while serving as Prime Minister, Imran Khan leaked vital national secrets for vested interests. The Pakistani government believes that a conviction on treason charges will not only tarnish Imran Khan's political image but also rapidly diminish his popularity among the public. Along with Imran Khan, action is also being prepared against his close associates and several senior military officers.

Experts say these trials will be conducted in military courts, raising questions about the possibility of a fair trial. The Supreme Court has already ruled that civilians involved in the May 2023 violence, including attacks on military installations, should also face trials in military courts. Imran Khan is currently in jail serving multiple sentences in the Toshakhana, Iddat, and Al-Qadir Trust cases.

But under Pakistan's current system, the most crucial case against him is now believed to be treason and alleged misappropriation of confidential information. Hameed, who was in Imran's kitchen cabinet, is no stranger to political controversies. He served as a guarantor during the 2017 Faizabad Accord, which ended the TLP's prolonged sit-in.

During the PTI government, he was considered part of Imran Khan's "kitchen cabinet" and was rumored to be close to him and Bushra Bibi. Hameed is being investigated for his alleged role in the May 9, 2023 riots, during which military buildings and monuments were damaged.

Hameed and Bajwa were the targets of Nawaz Sharif

In 2020, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, at a rally in Gujranwala, accused Faiz Hameed and then-Army Chief General Qamar Bajwa of playing a role in his coup. Nawaz Sharif, speaking directly from the stage, said, "General Faiz, this happened at your hands, and you will have to answer."

Imran-Hamid is reaping the harvest he has sown.

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari launched a scathing attack on Imran Khan and Faiz Hameed, calling them "the pharaohs of their time." He said that while Prime Minister, Imran Khan threatened opposition leaders, jailed them, and even targeted women leaders like Faryal Talpur and Maryam Nawaz. Today, both are reaping the rewards they sowed.
