News Topical, Digital Desk : A powerful explosion occurred during Friday prayers in Islamabad, Pakistan today. It was a suicide attack, in which more than 71 people were killed and more than 200 people were seriously injured. The surprising thing is that this suicide attack took place just 11 miles away from the Pakistani Army Headquarters in Rawalpindi. The suicide bomber blew himself up with a bomb at the gate of a mosque in Tarlai Kalan, a suburban area of Islamabad. The explosion was so loud that its sound was heard up to five kilometers away. There was screaming and crying after the blast in Pakistan. Emergency has been imposed in Islamabad since the incident.

India reacted to the blast

On behalf of India, the Ministry of External Affairs has issued a statement on the blast in Islamabad. According to the statement issued, India said, "The bomb blast at the mosque in Islamabad this morning is condemnable and India expresses its deepest condolences on the loss of life and property in it. It is unfortunate that Pakistan, instead of seriously addressing the problems prevalent in its social fabric, is choosing to mislead itself by blaming others for its domestic crises. India completely rejects every such allegation, which is baseless and meaningless."

Explosion in the big mosque of the Shia community

It should be noted that the mosque in Islamabad where the suicide attack took place today is a major Shia mosque. The mosque campus also houses a madrasa and an imambara. Being the largest Shia mosque in the area, it is home to a large crowd of worshippers on Fridays, which is why the time of prayer was chosen for the suicide attack. The suicide bomber intended to detonate among the worshippers, but security guards became suspicious of his actions, so they stopped him. He then took out his automatic rifle and began firing. Before the security guards could retaliate, the attacker detonated the bomb at the mosque gate.
