News Topical, Digital Desk : Thailand's cabinet on Saturday appointed Deputy Prime Minister Phumtham Vechayachai as the acting Prime Minister.
In fact, Thailand's Constitutional Court on Friday removed suspended Prime Minister Patongtarn Shinawatra from office for violating the constitution during a telephone conversation with Cambodia on the border issue.
Patongtarn was suspended last month pending a court investigation into his telephone call with Cambodian Senate Speaker Samdech Techo Hun Sen over a border dispute, the audio recording of which was leaked online in June.
What were the charges?
On July 1, the court unanimously agreed to accept the petition of a group of senators who sought the dismissal of Patongtarn, accusing him of lacking integrity and committing serious violations of ethical standards that violated the constitution due to comments made during a conversation.
Meanwhile, Minister in the Prime Minister's Office Chusak Sirinil said the Cabinet has approved a strict framework for its actions during this transitional period to ensure stability.
When will the meeting take place?
The move was a constitutional requirement, according to which the current cabinet will continue to rule in a caretaker capacity until the new administration takes over. The secretariat of the House of Representatives has issued a notice to members of parliament calling for a meeting from September 3 to 5.
