Opposition accuses the government

The rape of a two-and-a-half-year-old girl has shocked everyone. The opposition is accusing the government of failing to prevent crimes against women and children.

Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) general secretary Aadhav Arjun criticised the ruling DMK, alleging that crimes against women were increasing day by day and the government's negligence had encouraged people with criminal mindset.

The DMK government responded to these criticisms by saying that strict measures have been taken to deal with crimes against women and children and the law will take its course.

The party pointed to speedy investigations and fast-track trials in cases like the Anna University sexual assault case, where the accused were convicted.
