News Topical, Digital Desk : The Indian Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rains in Gujarat on Thursday (August 21). IMD has issued a red alert for Gujarat. At the same time, schools and colleges have been closed due to heavy rains in Himachal. However, the weather is expected to be normal here on Thursday. The weather in Delhi will also be normal and people here may face problems due to humid heat. At the same time, the situation in Mumbai is bad due to heavy rains and an orange alert has been issued here on Thursday with a warning of heavy rains.

According to the IMD, the maximum temperature in Delhi on Thursday is expected to be around 35 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature around 24 degrees Celsius. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 79 at 4 pm on Wednesday, which falls in the 'satisfactory' category. The maximum temperature here on Wednesday was recorded at 36.2 degrees Celsius, which is one degree above normal. The IMD said that the minimum temperature was recorded at 25.8 degrees Celsius, which is 0.7 degrees Celsius below normal. 

Schools and colleges closed in Himachal

Heavy rains in many parts of Himachal Pradesh have disrupted normal life and schools and colleges have been closed in some areas of Una, Kullu and Mandi districts. Educational institutions have been closed as a precautionary measure in Amb and Gagret subdivisions of Una. The decision to close schools was taken after incidents of flash floods, cloudburst and landslides in Manali and Banjar areas of Kullu and Mandi districts. The body of a pilgrim who died due to rock fall while returning from Kailash Yatra in Kannur district was recovered on Wednesday. Gaurav (31), a resident of Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, was injured in the accident near Ganesh Gufa on Tuesday. On receiving information, a police team reached the spot and started rescue operations, but he had already died. 

Flood in Kullu, 368 roads closed

Flash floods in a drain in Shastri Nagar in Kullu damaged houses and vehicles, causing panic among locals. A foot bridge was washed away in Silbhudhani village in Mandi district due to flash floods following a cloudburst on Monday night. The Bhubu, Kungri and associated rivers are also witnessing a stir, due to which orders were issued to keep village schools closed for the safety of students. A total of 368 roads, including three national highways, were closed for traffic in the state. These include 173 roads in Mandi district and 126 in adjoining Kullu district. Toll collection has been suspended for a month at Baloh and Garmora toll plazas on the Kiratpur-Nerchowk four-lane highway in Bilaspur in view of landslides caused by heavy rains. The Meteorological Department has issued an 'orange' alert, predicting heavy rains in different parts of the state from August 24 to 26. A 'Yellow Alert' has been issued on August 23 in view of the forecast of heavy rains at isolated places in the state.

Relief for Mumbaikars, Orange alert issued

On Wednesday, the people of Mumbai got relief due to the reduction in the intensity of rain. Although an orange alert has been issued here on Thursday as well, the situation is expected to be better than before. Life is returning to normal here and all services including local trains have been restored. Schools and colleges have also opened. The IMD has predicted a reduction in the intensity of rain. The BMC said that all departments are on alert and are ready to take necessary steps if needed.
