News Topical, Digital Desk : People demonstrated in various states including Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi, Bihar and Jharkhand to protest the death of Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Khamenei in the US and Israeli attack. The All India Shia Personal Law Board has declared three days of mourning. A large number of children and women also participated in the condolence meeting held at Jantar Mantar in the capital Delhi. People had tied black bands on their arms and foreheads while carrying pictures of Khamenei.
Protests were held in several locations, including Okhla, and a candlelight vigil was held at the Karbala in Jorbagh. A condolence meeting was also held at the Iran Cultural Center, which was also attended by a large number of people. Jamaat-e-Islami Hind President Syed Sahatullah Hussaini strongly condemned Khamenei's death. Shops were closed in Old Lucknow by the Muslim community.
Hindu merchants also did not open their shops in support. A large crowd gathered at the small Imambara in the square. Shia cleric Maulana Yasoob Abbas said that during the three days of mourning, we should all wear black clothes. We should hoist black placards on our houses. We should recite Fatiha and offer Nazr for Khamenei.
There was anger among the people in Jammu and Kashmir as well
Protests broke out across Kashmir on Sunday. The Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulema, a forum of various religious organizations, has called for a Kashmir shutdown on Monday. The government has ordered the closure of all schools, colleges, and universities in Kashmir on March 2 and 3.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah posted on the internet media platform X saying he was deeply concerned by the events in Iran. He urged the police and administration to exercise restraint.
In Malerkotla, Punjab, the Muslim community held a protest march. A large number of Muslims demonstrated outside the Deeni Markaz Jama Masjid in Ludhiana. In Sheikhpura, Bihar, members of the Muslim community held a candlelight vigil. Along with the Shia community, a large number of Sunnis also participated in the candlelight vigil. A large number of Shia members also participated in the demonstration at Karbala Chowk in Ranchi.
