News Topical,Digital Desk : The country's main opposition party Congress has demanded a special session of Parliament to send a message to the world about the nation's unity and commitment against the Pahalgam terrorist attack.

 

Congress President, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi have written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting him to immediately convene a special session of Parliament to discuss the Pahalgam terrorist attack. The opposition leaders of both the houses of Parliament have sent a letter to the Prime Minister requesting him to convene a special session after discussions with all the major parties of the opposition INDIAN alliance.

 

Both Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi shared their respective letters written to Prime Minister Modi on Monday night, citing the need to convene a Parliament session on Pahalgam, on Xpost on Tuesday. Kharge has said in the letter sent to the PM that ‘At this time when unity and solidarity is essential, the opposition believes that it is important to convene a special session of both the Houses of Parliament as soon as possible. This will be a powerful demonstration of our collective resolve and will to deal with the brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam on innocent civilians on 22 April 2025. It is our sincere hope that a Parliament session will be convened accordingly.’

'It will be a powerful show of will'

In his letter to the Prime Minister as the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi has requested to convene a special session of both the Houses of Parliament as soon as possible, saying that at this crucial time India has to show that we are always united against terrorism. Rahul Gandhi said, "Every Indian is hurt by the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. At this delicate time, India has to show that we will always be united against terrorism. The opposition believes that a special session of both the Houses of Parliament should be called. Where the representatives of the people can show their unity and determination. We request that such a special session be called as soon as possible."

 

Rahul Gandhi made this appeal to PM Modi

Congress Communications General Secretary Jairam Ramesh termed the letter written to the PM by the two top leaders of the party as the need of the hour and said that after discussions with all the major leaders of the opposition alliance, the government has been urged to convene a Parliament session because this is a sensitive time. Its purpose is to show the world that our resolve against terrorism is one. It is necessary to send a message from the highest institution of the country, the Parliament, to pledge the unity of the country while defeating the forces of divisiveness and polarization.

 

On the day of the Pahalgam terror attack, Congress had raised the demand for an all-party meeting and the government had called an all-party meeting the very next day to apprise the political parties about the situation. It may be noted that the government of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir had called a one-day special session of its assembly on Monday and passed a resolution strongly condemning the heinous terror attack in Pahalgam and paid emotional tribute to all the 26 innocent civilians killed in it.
