Pune: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday launched three Param Rudra supercomputers along with high-performance computing systems called Arka and Arunika. Asserting that technological advancement should empower the poor, the prime minister said a country can aim for big achievements only if it has a big vision. He described the day as a "huge achievement" in science and technology.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that his government has ensured that the common man should benefit from research in technology. He said that self-reliance in science is our aim. The government is giving priority to science, technology and research.

Benefits to all individuals

PM said that we started National Supercomputing Mission in 2015 and now quantum computing technology has taken lead, which will help in improving information technology, manufacturing, MSME and startups. It will be able to create models related to AI and machine learning, which will benefit all the individuals.

Preparations for Mission Gaganyaan have begun and we will have our own space station in space by 2035. India is building its own semiconductor ecosystem which will be an important part of the global supply chain.

PM said that the names Arka and Arunika are related to the Sun. The Rs 850 crore high-performance computing systems designed for weather and climate research were installed at the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology in Pune and the National Medium Range Weather Forecasting Center in Noida. They have extraordinary computing power. These systems will make predictions related to tropical cyclones, heavy rainfall, storms, hailstorms, heat waves, droughts and other important weather-related events more accurately in less time.
