Michael Lamjanthang receives death threats
The BJP spokesperson further alleged that two men had asked some people to kill him. In the FIR, the BJP spokesperson said that the person who kills him was promised village land. Michael Lamzathang Haokip has also presented alleged screenshots of WhatsApp group chats in which some people said, "I promise that if anyone kills Lamzathang, I will give my village land."
CM N Biren expressed concern
Manipur CM N Biren Singh has also expressed concern over this incident. He wrote on Twitter, "The attack on the family members of Michael Lamzathang, a leader of the Thadu community, one of the oldest tribes of Manipur, and the BJP spokesperson by vandalising their house is a cowardly act. I consider the personal harm to one of our recognized tribes as a direct challenge to the unity and integrity of the state.
He further wrote, "The attack on a particular community of the recognised tribes of Manipur and the attack on the family of the BJP spokesperson is strongly condemned. We will initiate appropriate legal action against the culprits."
Why is BJP spokesperson getting threats?
Haokip said he has been receiving threats for raising awareness about his tribe, Thadou, being wrongly referred to as Kuki tribe amid ethnic tensions in Manipur. A so-called organisation, TTC, is condemning Haokip's comments that Thadou tribe is not part of Kuki.
