New Delhi: In the case of brutal murder of a second year PG student of RG Kar Medical College, Kolkata, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has demanded the West Bengal government to conduct a fair investigation into the case and punish the culprits.

The IMA wrote a letter to Union Minister JP Nadda demanding a detailed investigation into the conditions that made the crime possible and steps to improve the safety of doctors, especially women, at the workplace. The IMA had given a two-day ultimatum on these demands.

demand for security

"We place before you our demands for a central law to provide safe zones, security measures and preventive measures against violence. We hope that you will consider our demands favourably in view of the deteriorating ground situation," the IMA wrote in the letter.

The strike will continue today as well

Resident Doctors Association President Aviral Mathur also demanded an investigation by the central agency. He said that the status quo of the strike will continue today as well. Let us tell you that on August 9, a postgraduate trainee doctor was murdered after being sexually assaulted at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

Doctors met Nadda

After meeting Union Minister JP Nadda, Federation of Resident Doctors Association President Aviral Mathur said that the ministry had called us today to discuss some points. We were there for more than two hours. We discussed our demands in several sessions with the Union Minister's core team.

The family should get proper compensation

Aviral Mathur said that our demand is that the RG Kar Medical College should be investigated by a central agency and the victim's family should get proper compensation. To ensure that such an incident does not happen again, a systematic time limit should be made in the Central Health Care Protection Act.

We don't want just promises. They agreed to some demands and were hesitant about some. There was no result. Members of all hospitals are present here. Now we will hold a general meeting. The status quo of the strike will continue. We will keep our optional services closed tomorrow as well.
