New Delhi: Many places in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, which are facing heavy rains, received rain on Tuesday as well. Rivers and streams are still in spate. Residential areas are flooded, especially the low-lying areas. Many agencies including NDRF and Army are carrying out rescue and relief operations in full swing and the affected people are being taken to safer places.
Many cities were cut off from communication
Road and rail traffic was badly affected for the fourth consecutive day. Many cities have lost contact with each other. Roads have turned into ponds. On Tuesday also 323 trains were cancelled while the routes of 170 were changed.
Announcement of giving 130 crores to CM Relief Fund
Meanwhile, the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Telangana employees, gazetted officers, teachers, workers and pensioners has announced to donate about Rs 130 crore to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund for flood relief. This amount is equal to one day's basic salary of all employees and pensioners. Telugu star Junior NTR also announced to donate Rs 50 lakh each to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund of both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
CM Naidu set up camp
Meanwhile, four more NDRF teams along with four helicopters reached Vijayawada, the worst-hit city in Andhra Pradesh, and started rescue and relief operations. Six helicopters of the Air Force and Navy are already deployed in the city. The helicopters are not only evacuating people stranded in the flood-hit areas but are also delivering food and other essential supplies to the affected areas. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is camping in Vijayawada to monitor the rescue and relief operations.
How much was the loss?
In Andhra, a total of 2,684 km long roads have been damaged due to this flood while crops have been destroyed in more than 1.80 lakh acres of area. Farmers of 20 districts have been affected by this. The number of flood affected people in the state has increased to 6.4 lakh. Meanwhile, in Telangana, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy said that removing encroachments on lakes and drains will be the priority of the state government, because they have caused a lot of damage. Let us tell you that due to torrential rains and floods, 33 people have died so far in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh while lakhs of people have become homeless and are living in relief camps.
